What Butler does

Butler looks at every item in your bags and tells you what to do with it. Sell it, auction it, disenchant it, mail it to an alt, bank it or keep it. Then it helps you do it with one click.

  • It sells your junk at a vendor.
  • It fills in mail to your other characters. You still press Send.
  • It moves things to and from your bank.
  • It keeps a to-do list for crafting across all your characters.
  • It shows what every character has, in one list.
  • It tracks what you're saving gold for.

Nothing leaves your bags unless you click. Butler never deletes anything.

Works best with the other Blackthornes addons. Butler works on its own, but it knows more when they're installed:

AddonWhat it adds to Butler
TradeskillsAuction prices, disenchanting, mail for your alts, the crafting to-do list, and All characters
EquipmentKeeps your upgrades and tools, and can mail upgrades to your alts
FarmerKeeps what your farming goals need
PetsKeeps your pet's food

How to open it

  • Type /butler or /bbutler.
  • Or click the satchel button on your minimap. Right-click it for Settings.
  • Butler also opens by itself at a vendor, a mailbox, the bank (when there's something to move) and a class trainer (when you have spells to learn).
  • Press Escape to close it.

The Butler window

The window has two views. Switch between them with the button at the top.

  • Your bags sorts what you're carrying into groups.
  • All characters lists every item on every character.

Each view has its own search box. Click a group's heading to fold it or open it. Hover an item to see why Butler put it there.

The groups in Your bags

Only groups with something in them show.

Selling. At a vendor, click Sell on the Sell heading. Each click sells from the Sell group only. You can buy things back from the vendor's Buyback tab.

Mail. At a mailbox, click Fill mail on a character's line. Butler fills in the Send Mail page for that character. Check it and press Send. When you send one, Butler fills the next one for you.

Bank. At the bank, Move to bank puts your Always bank items away. Take from bank brings out upgrades to wear and what your crafts need.

Jobs: your to-do list

With Tradeskills, Jobs lists what each character needs to do for your crafting queue. Steps go in this order:

  1. Train new spells, when you can learn some. Click Train all at a class trainer, or Show the way to find one.
  2. For your quests: things your quests still need. At the auction house, click Search to look for them.
  3. Get your mail, when something's waiting for you.
  4. Buy from a vendor: click Buy at a vendor to get what your crafts need.
  5. Buy or gather: things to get from the auction house or out in the world.
  6. Mail to NAME: things another character needs for their crafts.
  7. Craft: click Craft to make it. If your profession window is closed, the first click opens it.
  8. Next: NAME: the next character with work to do. Click Log out, then pick that character.

When everything is done, the bottom of the window says "Everything here is done."

Gold goals

Under the list, Gold Goals shows what your gold is for next:

  • Class spells to train
  • Profession training
  • Riding training

Each one says Ready when you have enough, or how much more you need.

All characters

This view lists every item on all your characters. Click an item to see who has it, and whether it's in their bags, bank or mail. It also says how long ago Butler last saw it. This view needs Tradeskills.

Right-click an item

Right-click any item in Your bags to choose for yourself:

  • Always keep
  • Always sell
  • Always bank
  • Always mail to... one of your characters
  • Bought to disenchant, for things you bought on the auction house to break
  • Let Butler decide, to undo your choice

Your choices count for all your characters.

Butler learns from you

  • If you buy back something Butler sold, it keeps it from then on.
  • If you sell the same item by hand at two vendor visits, Butler puts it under Sell.
  • If you mail the same item to the same character twice, Butler puts it under Mail.

Your right-click choices always win.

Buy more

Shift-click an item at a vendor to buy a lot at once, like 200 water. Type how many and click Buy. It stops if your bags fill up or you run out of gold.

Other things Butler adds

  • Free bag space: a number on your backpack button shows how many slots are free. It turns amber when you're running low and red when you're nearly full.
  • Who has it: item tooltips list which of your characters have that item, and how many.
  • Butler on tooltips: items in your bags say what Butler thinks you should do with them, like "Butler: Sell".
  • Trash can: when your bags are full, a small gold can shows on your cheapest stack. Click it to pick the item up. The game asks before anything is thrown away.
  • Butler's voice: Butler greets you when you open the window and when you close it.

Settings

Right-click the minimap button, or type /butler settings. Changes save right away. Use Find a setting at the top to search.
